Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)

A hyphenated analytical technique that combines two procedures forming a single method. GC-MS is used to analyze mixtures containing organic substances through the gas chromatography technique, which separates the components of a volatilized mixture. The mass spectrometry technique characterizes each of the isolated components. The combined technique can perform qualitative and quantitative determination of various samples as long as it contains organic substances.
